Statewide Sponsors Help Six Students Learn International Marketing
Richmond - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) has selected six graduate business students to participate in the 1997 Hannover Industrial Trade Fair to be held April 14-19 in Hannover, Germany. Internationally respected as the world's largest industrial trade show, the Hannover Fair attracts more than 350,000 visitors from over 100 countries each year. This year marks the fair's 50th anniversary as a forum for the international business community.
VEDP's Student Ambassador Program originated in 1996 as a vehicle to provide graduate business students with a valuable opportunity to contribute to their professional development as Virginia's future business leaders. Six students were selected from a pool of nearly 60 applicants representing Virginia's colleges and universities. Awards were determined based on a quantitative scale measuring depth and relevance of marketing experience, international knowledge and language skills.
The following students were selected to attend the 1997 Hanover Fair:
- Aryan Bahrambeigi, George Mason University
- Jason Girard, University of Richmond
- Adam Mahmud, Virginia Tech
- Daniel Murray, University of Richmond
- Stephanie von Horvath-Najmi, Old Dominion University
- Molly Yeager Romano, The College of William and Mary
During their week-long stay in Germany, these students will accompany the Virginia delegation to gain international experience and further develop their marketing skills. They will visit potential distributors, agents, buyers and investors to promote the Commonwealth of Virginia as an ideal business location.
"The Student Ambassador Program allows business students to receive practical experience while promoting Virginia's businesses and products," said VEDP Executive Director Wayne L. Sterling. "As corporate sponsors, Virginia companies are given the opportunity to publicize their expertise at the world's largest industrial trade show."
The Student Ambassador Program is funded through donations from corporate sponsors across the state. The following corporate sponsors participated in this year's program:
