Nexus Communications to Create 550 Jobs for Southwest Virginia
Dickenson County - Governor George Allen today announced that Nexus Communications will locate a new $4.3 million call center in Dickenson County's Happy Valley Industrial Park. Approximately 130 employees will be hired initially, followed by as many as 550 over the next three years. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland for the investment.
"Nexus Communications is an innovative, rapidly growing and energetic company with explosive growth potential. They are already establishing themselves as a leading provider of direct marketing and consumer information services," said Governor Allen. "Our efforts to highlight the advantages of doing business in our Commonwealth -- especially this region have paid off in these new jobs for Dickenson County. Not only will this project create new jobs for Southwest Virginia, but it will also help to diversify the local economy."
Nexus Communications' decision to locate in Dickenson County is a result of the Governor's Red Carpet Tour in far Southwest Virginia. Last October, Governor Allen hosted potential investors on a two-day tour of the region which focused on the area's competitively low corporate income taxes, low unemployment insurance tax rates and a quality, motivated workforce.
Nexus Communications is becoming a leading provider of direct marketing and consumer information services. The company will provide a combination of agent-assisted consumer information and direct marketing services from the new facility.

Governor Allen today presented a $350,000 check from the Governor's Opportunity Fund to assist Dickenson County with site preparation, the first direct grant from the fund ever presented to the county.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority, Dickenson County, and the Town of Clintwood assisted the company with its decision. Workforce training services will be provided by the Virginia Department of Business Assistance.
Virginia has experienced major growth in telecommunications. Since 1994, 24 call centers have located in the State, employing over 9,300 with investments totaling $171.4 million.
