Technology trade show in Germany produces results
Richmond - Twenty Virginia companies joined representatives from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to participate in CeBIT '98, the world's largest trade fair for information technology and telecommunications. Several Virginia companies now project sales increases as a result of their attendance at the show. This is the largest group of Virginia companies to attend CeBIT in four years. Held in Hannover, Germany, in March, 670,000 visitors came from around the world to visit the 7,250 exhibitors from 60 countries.
Virginia was promoted this year as the Technology State. Six Virginia companies including ARTEL, Inc. of Reston, EIS International, Inc. of Herndon, Gyrus Systems, Inc. of Richmond, International Software Solutions, Inc. of Herndon, MegaCard International of Chesapeake, and MJ Systems of Charlottesville participated in the USA Software/Internet Pavilion.
"Gyrus Systems is particularly pleased with the response to our Training Wizard Product by the CeBIT attendees," said Gary Burdette of Gyrus Systems, Inc. "We have received over 400 leads from prospective buyers, 50 leads from prospective dealers and 50 leads from prospective partners." With just two of those dealers, Gyrus expects $3 million in new revenue within the next two years.
Other Virginia companies, including CyberStuff and MJ Systems, have had similar product responses since their participation in CeBIT '98. These successes have encouraged companies to plan to attend CeBIT '99.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology, the Arlington County Department of Economic Development, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, the Greater Richmond Partnership, the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance, the Newport News Department of Economic Development, the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority, the Hanover County Department of Economic Development, American Electric Power and the Norfolk Department of Economic Development organized the State of Virginia exhibit.
