Washington County wins 350 new jobs
Washington County - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Bristol Compressors will expand its manufacturing facility in Washington County, creating 350 new jobs for Virginians. The Virginia-based company will invest $20 million in the facility and plans to hire 100 initial employees in January 1999.
"The Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to existing industry," said Governor Gilmore. "Bristol Compressors' decision to expand its manufacturing facility in Washington County demonstrates the pro-business climate and quality workforce present in Southwest Virginia and throughout the Commonwealth. We are delighted that Bristol Compressors decided to remain in Virginia, rather than expand in the Carolinas or Tennessee."
Bristol Compressors, Inc. was founded in 1974 and began production in 1975. The company manufactures one to 25 horsepower compressors that are used in air conditioning and heat pump applications. Bristol Compressors, Inc. serves original equipment manufacturers and wholesale distributors in six continents and over 50 countries throughout the world. The 200,000-square-foot expansion in Washington County will allow the company to expand finished goods inventories and add critical manufacturing space for new products.

DuVal. "Many hard-working Virginians will benefit from more job opportunities created from this respected corporate citizen."
Governor Gilmore approved a grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund in the amount of $500,000 to assist Washington County with site preparation. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Virginia Department of Transportation, Washington County and the Mount Rogers Partnership assisted the company with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
