Telephone company will create 200 new jobs for Greater Richmond, Hampton Roads

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Cavalier Telephone Company will create 200 new jobs in the Greater Richmond and Hampton Roads areas by the end of this year. Most of the jobs, including those at a customer care center, will be located in a new Richmond headquarters facility.

"Cavalier Telephone is taking an aggressive step by building this telecommunications network," Governor Gilmore said. "This project will create 200 new jobs for Richmond’s workforce and will enhance Virginia’s reputation as an ideal business location for telecommunications firms."

Cavalier Telephone is the first competitive local exchange carrier to provide a full array of telephone services to businesses and residents in the Richmond area. To accomplish their business goals, the company is building a multimillion-dollar telecommunications network.

The company also offers advanced telecommunications products, including advanced telephone features and high-speed Internet access for residents and businesses in Virginia. Using state of the art, self-healing fiber optics and Lucent digital switching equipment, Cavalier is investing $50 million to assure Virginians a competitive option for expanding their telecommunications needs.

"Being a Virginia company and offering local, personal service is critical to our success," Cavalier Telephone President Brad Evans said. "We understand that saving our customers money is simply not enough. We believe we can do better than our competition in the area of customer service, and that’s what it takes to succeed."

"Virginia continues to support the business of telecommunications for companies such as Cavalier Telephone," Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal added. "The state is dedicated to fostering a positive business climate for this industry."

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the City of Richmond and the Greater Richmond Partnership assisted the company with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
