Location of inbound customer service call center will create 250 new jobs in Martinsville

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that National Catalog Corporation (NCC) will locate an inbound customer service call center in the City of Martinsville. NCC, a division of Distribution Associates of Greenwich, Connecticut, will lease an existing facility in the Patrick Henry Mall. NCC will invest $3 million in the call center and hire 250 employees. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky for the project.

"This announcement will bring many new jobs and investment to Martinsville and its surrounding communities," Governor Gilmore said. "National Catalog Corporation’s progressive inbound call center will also help diversify the region’s existing employee base."

NCC is a web-enabled call center that utilizes the Internet for inbound calls, contracting with partners for order taking. The firm’s mission is to create strategic partnerships with successful direct marketing companies through an outsourced operations infrastructure. NCC’s partners are then relieved of the burdens of additional capital investment as well as distribution fulfillment and telemarketing functions.

"After conducting a national site search, we found that Martinsville met all of our demographic criteria," NCC Executive Vice President and General Manager of Operations Bob Rhudy said. "We were particularly impressed with the infrastructure that has been built to support businesses of our type and the educational emphasis the Commonwealth gives to computer and technical training."

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Patrick Henry Development Council, and the City of Martinsville assisted NCC with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services. NCC also qualifies for additional tax credits since the company is locating in an Enterprise Zone.

"We are pleased to welcome NCC as our newest corporate citizen," Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal said. "The company’s decision confirms that Virginia’s rural communities are ideal locations for high-tech customer service operations."
