Super Sack Bag expands in Lee County; invests $1.6 million in new manufacturing facility

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Super Sack Bag, Inc. will locate a new manufacturing facility in the Lee County Industrial Park. The company, a subsidiary of B.A.G. Corp., has been a Lee County corporate citizen since 1995. This expansion will create 180 new jobs through a $1.6 million investment. Virginia successfully competed with Tennessee, Indiana and Texas for the project.

"This expansion is an economic development victory for Southwest Virginia," Governor Gilmore said. "The creation of 180 new jobs is a testament to Virginia's pro-business climate, and will provide excellent job opportunities for the people of the region."

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, B.A.G. Corp. manufactures the Super Sack® container, a woven polypropylene flexible intermediate bulk container (FIBC), and specialty liners for shipping, handling, and storing of dry-flowable and fluid products. This new facility will serve as the primary FIBC recycling division of the parent company. Super Sack Bag will be seeking applicants to fill manufacturing, sales and administrative positions. The company plans to hire 180 employees by early 2000.

"We anticipate rapid growth of this product line and may need to expand again in Virginia in the future," Vice President of Manufacturing for Super Sack Bag, Inc. Janet Gott said. "This new investment will provide many employment opportunities for the people of Lee County," Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal added. "Governor Gilmore's strategic plan for economic development, The Virginia Strategy, supports Virginia's existing companies and economic growth in the Commonwealth's rural areas."

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority and Lee County assisted the company with its expansion. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
