Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Avenir, Inc., an information technology company headquartered in New York City, will locate a new software development facility in Prince William County. Avenir will create 166 new jobs in Virginia through a $3 million investment. The Commonwealth successfully competed with New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Maryland for the project.

"Avenir will soon join an impressive list of Virginia companies that already benefit from our incredible technology infrastructure," Governor Gilmore said. "I welcome this global company to Virginia, the information technology state."

Avenir provides information technology solutions to clients worldwide. With offices in New York City, New Jersey and India, the company also develops business applications, e-commerce solutions and development tools used by a variety of industries. Avenir will construct a 23,000-square-foot facility in the INNOVATION business park to be completed in April 2001. The firm will lease temporary space in Prince William County in the interim. Software designers and programmers will be hired at the new facility by October 2001 earning an average salary of $82,000.

"A location in Northern Virginia is vital for our continued growth," said James Jose, CEO of Avenir, Inc. "Prince William County provides an ideal location with its outstanding employment base, excellent amenities and positive business attitude."
