Company to invest $13 million in manufacturing facility

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Engineered Building Components International Corporation (EBCI) will locate a $13 million manufacturing facility in Nottoway County's Pickett Park. EBCI, a start-up company founded by Virginian and construction veteran Ron Mullins, expects to create 100 new jobs over the next three years. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina for the investment.

"This announcement is a tremendous win for Nottoway County and its surrounding localities," Governor Gilmore said. "The county's excellent transportation system and its skilled workforce were key factors in recruiting this company which already has successful roots in the Commonwealth."

EBCI manufactures engineered building components for walls, roofs and floors. The components are built in a factory, coded for fast, error-free erection, and delivered to a job site where they are quickly erected. Products manufactured by EBCI will be distributed through Midlothian-based Millenium Building Systems. The engineered building components industry is the fastest growing segment of the home building market.

"In addition to providing components which allow builders to construct more high-quality homes, EBCI will also provide training to our employees," said Ron Mullins, President of EBCI. "The new plant in Nottoway County will bring considerable financial investment as well as jobs to the County. EBCI is creating a win-win situation for everyone."

Governor Gilmore approved a grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund in the amount of $300,000 to assist Nottoway County with site preparation. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Nottoway County Economic Development Committee assisted EBCI with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce-training services to the company.

"EBCI's decision will greatly assist Nottoway County in further diversifying its economic base," said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal. "I am pleased to be here today to announce the second major economic development announcement in four months for Pickett Park."
