Governor Gilmore announces 150 new jobs for Virginians
Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Altec Industries, a Birmingham, AL-based manufacturer of equipment for the utility and telecommunications industries, will locate a new manufacturing and final assembly facility in the Botetourt Center at Greenfield. The company plans to employ 150 people during its first three years of operation and invest $12.5 million.
"This is an excellent investment that will provide tremendous job opportunities for the citizens of Botetourt County," said Governor Gilmore. "This addition to the new Greenfield Industrial Park will help diversify the industrial base of the Roanoke Valley."
Altec is a leading manufacturer of aerial devices, digger derricks and specialty equipment for the electric utility, telecommunications and tree care industries. The company sells this type of equipment in more than 120 countries and employs more than 2,000 associates worldwide. Altec has manufacturing and service facilities in Birmingham, Elizabethtown, KY, Creedmoor, NC, St. Joseph, MO, Indianapolis, Plains, PA, Dixon, CA, Atlanta, Dallas, Portland, OR, West Palm Beach, FL, Pomona, CA and Millbury, MA. The company also has facilities in Canada located in Milton, ON, Surrey, BC and Winnipeg, MB.
"Our new plant in Botetourt County will provide us with additional manufacturing capacity to better service our customer base," said Jon Styslinger, senior vice president, manufacturing for Altec. "This new facility will offer a central geographic location on the East Coast with an excellent transportation system and is in an area of the country know for workers with a solid work ethic. It's a perfect fit for our company."

Governor Gilmore approved a grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund in the amount of $400,000 to assist Botetourt County with site preparation. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership and Botetourt County assisted the company with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services to the company.
