335 new positions created in Chesapeake
Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Dendrite International, a Morristown, New Jersey-based firm, will locate a new technical services center in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. The new facility will create 335 new jobs within the first 30 months with a total investment exceeding $30 million.
"Dendrite is a welcome addition to the ever-growing technology sector in the Commonwealth," said Governor Gilmore. "We are very pleased that they chose Virginia as their next place of expansion and we are confident that they will find our Commonwealth a rewarding place to do business."
As a leading global provider of highly specialized, integrated product and service offerings for the pharmaceutical and consumer package goods industries, Dendrite International, Inc., supports corporate strategies for a sustained competitive advantage. Thousands of sales representatives and their managers from over 150 companies and 57 countries rely on Dendrite. Dendrite's expansion into Virginia is part of a plan to create a new state-of-the-art Data and Call Center Facility to be completed in April 2001. The Virginia facility comprised of approximately 100,000 total square feet, will house the new operations and an initial workforce of 100 people.
"Dendrite's decision has big implications for the City of Chesapeake," said Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal. "The additional jobs coupled with such a large initial investment will prove to be very beneficial to the economic status of both Chesapeake and Virginia."
Mayor William E. Ward stated, "Dendrite is the global leader in the development and provision of sales force effectiveness solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. Their decision to locate this data and operations center in Chesapeake significantly advances our cutting edge position in this growing high tech industry."
Governor Gilmore approved a $500,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund to assist the City of Chesapeake with site preparation. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and the City of Chesapeake assisted Dendrite with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
