RICHMOND - Virginia Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Cerxon Microtechnologies, LLC will relocate operations from Camden, South Carolina to Henry County. The company will invest $6.5 million and hire 250 employees over the next 30 months. Virginia successfully competed with South Carolina for this investment.
“This announcement is a tremendous win for Henry County and all of Southside Virginia,” said Governor Warner. “Cerxon will benefit from the Commonwealth’s dedicated workforce and pro-business climate as it anchors the new Henry County Technology Campus.”
Cerxon Microtechnologies, LLC, a division of Palmetto Technologies, manufactures sophisticated microelectronic components. These components are used in products such as automobiles, cell phones, military equipment and medical devices. Cerxon was founded in 1998 through acquisition of an existing hybrid microelectronics company. In Henry County, Cerxon will first create a prototyping facility for the manufacturing of hybrid microelectronics. An additional manufacturing facility will allow expansion of activities ranging from thin film manufacturing to electronic assembly.
"Henry County, Virginia knew they could offer us what we needed," said Michael Nixon, Vice President of Cerxon Microtechnologies, "a workforce highly qualified for the technology industry, an infrastructure customized to our needs and most importantly, a shared long-term vision for our growth and the growth of the community.”
Governor Warner approved a $200,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Henry County with the project. The county also obtained $100,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds to assist with the expansion. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Henry County Office of Commerce assisted Cerxon with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services. The company also qualified for additional tax credits because they are locating in an enterprise zone.
