RICHMOND - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s (VEDP) Division of International Trade today announced plans to attend Farnborough International 2002 to promote the export of Virginia products and services. The year’s largest aerospace trade show, Farnborough International 2002 will be held in Farnborough, England July 22-28, 2002. VEDP’s Division of International Trade is inviting Virginia aerospace companies to join the state at this world-renowned trade show to seek export opportunities.
VEDP’s Division of International Trade is soliciting participation as part of its mission to provide Virginia businesses with the resources to identify and develop new market opportunities for exporting. Participating companies must cover their own travel costs and exhibit fees. In 2000, five Virginia companies joined VEDP at Farnborough International 2000.
With 1,000 exhibitors from 30 countries and more than 150 aircraft on display, Farnborough International 2000 was Virginia’s first effort to promote exports at an aerospace show in the United Kingdom. Many of the Virginia companies who attended received orders, acquired major contracts or received requests for price quotations as well as made contacts for future export sales. This year, with Farnborough International expecting 170,000 trade visitors from 56 countries, VEDP has reserved a 16-square-meter exhibit to showcase Virginia’s aerospace industry.
“Attending Farnborough 2000 gave our company tremendous exposure to the European market,” said Felipe Rodriguez of Aeronautical Systems. “It was the perfect market to plant seeds for future business relations. As a direct result of attending that show, our firm recently finalized negotiations with a company that provides information technology worldwide.”
