Instant Systems to invest more than $900,000 to expand biotechnology packaging operation, retrain employees on new equipment

The Apprentice School in Newport News allows students to fire up virtual power tools and get firsthand experience fusing metal for vessels produced by Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), a division of HII.

Virginia Western Community College’s advanced technology education programs, which train skilled workers to serve the Roanoke's advanced manufacturing base and growing automotive industry, helped draw Mack Trucks, Inc. to Virginia's Roanoke Region. 

RICHMOND - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) today announced the launch of a new resource portal to help Virginia’s defense-related companies go global. The online portal was created through Virginia’s Going Global Defense Initiative (GGDI), the Commonwealth’s only program that secures new revenue streams for Virginia’s defense companies in face of declining U.S. Department of Defense spending, which in turn preserves jobs and replaces declining state tax revenues for Virginia. 

The Great Opportunities in Technology and Engineering Careers program (GO TEC) is on a mission to develop a broad talent pipeline for advanced manufacturing companies in Virginia — a serious mission that begins with play.  

Germanna Community College and GCubed, Inc. partnered to create a summer boot camp credentialing program for high school teachers to train them for cybersecurity classes.
