German transportation company to create 100 jobs in South Hampton Roads

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Innovations in Transportation, Inc. (INIT) has decided to locate its North American headquarters in the City of Chesapeake. INIT is a leading provider of computer-integrated Intelligent Transportation Systems throughout Europe and the United States. The company plans to hire 100 employees within five years and will initially invest $2 million in the facility.

Virginia has been named Business Facilities’ 2024 State of the Year, marking the third time the Commonwealth has received this top honor from the magazine.

RICHMOND - Governor Bob McDonnell announced today that Virginia has landed a collaborative project to establish a facility for the testing and certification of large offshore and land-based electricity-producing wind turbines. The project, called Poseidon Atlantic, will be the first such facility in the United States and will help fill a growing need globally for facilities that test and certify wind turbines. The initial phase of the project is to be developed on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in Northampton County.

Expel, Inc. will invest $1.4 million to expand footprint 

RICHMOND—Governor Ralph Northam today announced that Expel, Inc., a Virginia-based managed security provider, will invest $1.4 million to expand its operation in the Town of Herndon in Fairfax County. The company will grow its footprint by adding additional space to the current facility and creating 164 new jobs across its engineering, customer experience, IT, marketing, and sales teams over the next three years.

RICHMOND - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Alfa Laval will expand its operations in Henrico County with the addition of a new valve and pump manufacturing facility. The $10 million expansion will be adjacent to the company’s current facility in the International Business Park. Alfa Laval presently employs approximately 250 people in the Richmond area and will create 100 new jobs with this expansion. 

Norfolk - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Zim-American Israeli Shipping Co., Inc. will relocate its United States headquarters from New York City to Norfolk. Zim-American Israeli Shipping Co. will invest $6.2 million to locate in a new building in the Lake Wright Executive Center. The company will also hire 235 people to work in this facility. Virginia successfully competed with Texas for this investment.
