Governor Gilmore announces new business rankings from Site Selection magazine

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Site Selection, a widely-read economic development trade magazine, has ranked Virginia among the top 10 states in 1998 economic development announcements. With 462 announcements of new and expanding businesses recorded last year, Virginia was the seventh most successful state in the nation. The magazine has tallied this annual industry benchmark for more than 25 years.

Icicon Electronics will create 80 new jobs, bring $2.5 million investment to Buchanan County

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Icicon Electronics India, Ltd. will locate a new manufacturing facility in Buchanan County. The company will manufacture multilayer ceramic chip capacitors at the new facility. Icicon will create 80 new jobs for Virginians through an initial investment of $2.5 million.

Richmond - Three key directors have been named to join the staff of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), the state authority charged with marketing the Commonwealth to businesses and promoting Virginia exports. Mark R. Kilduff, Acting Executive Director of the Partnership, made the announcement today at the Virginia Economic Developers Association Spring Conference in Williamsburg.

AOL also announces $80 million for two new Loudoun County buildings

Prince William County - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL), the world’s leading interactive services company, has selected Prince William County as the site for a new $520 million technology center. America Online also announced plans to construct two new buildings worth $80 million at the company’s headquarters in Loudoun County.

Dairy manufacturer will create 170 new jobs, bring $70 million investment to Winchester area

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that HP Hood, a nationally recognized dairy manufacturer, plans to construct a beverage processing facility in Frederick County. The company will invest $70 million in the plant over the next four years. HP Hood expects to build its staff to more than 170 employees by 2000.

The new company will create 30 new jobs through a $4.4 million investment.

Company's expansion will create more than 3,000 new jobs throughout Virginia this year

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced Capital One's decision to expand its operations throughout the Commonwealth by more than 3,000 new jobs and 500,000 square feet during 1999. Capital One will create 2,010 additional jobs in Henrico County, 350 in Chesterfield County, 400 in Spotsylvania County, and 315 in Fairfax County.
