New $50-plus million campus to eventually house 2,500 jobs in Loudoun County

Loudoun County - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by Orbital Sciences Corporation to expand its satellite engineering, manufacturing and operations facilities adjacent to the company's headquarters in Loudoun County. The $50-plus million expansion will create up to 1,500 new jobs over the next three years and allow the company to consolidate its five existing Northern Virginia locations to a single integrated site.

Governor Gilmore announces creation of up to 125 new jobs for Southwest Virginians

Rockbridge County - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by SpanDeck Inc. to locate a new manufacturing facility in Tazewell County, creating up to 125 new jobs with a $2.5 million investment. SpanDeck is a leading manufacturer of hydraulic, telescopic-boom, crawler cranes used in a variety of industries. Virginia successfully competed with Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida for the investment.

Japanese/American venture to create 200 new jobs

Rockbridge County - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by Daikin Industries, Ltd., and Modine Manufacturing Company to form a joint venture to produce a new line of packaged, rooftop, air-conditioning products. Daikin-Modine will locate its U.S. corporate headquarters in the City of Buena Vista and projects to create 200 jobs over the next five years. Twenty employees will be hired initially.

Southwest Virginian to Oversee Virginia Economic Development Partnership

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that J. Thomas Fowlkes has been elected chairman of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), the state authority charged with creating new jobs and investment for the Commonwealth. The 15-member board of directors elected Fowlkes last week at their quarterly meeting in Richmond.

Baan plans $40 million facility, 1000 new jobs

Ashburn - Governor Jim Gilmore today attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Baan Company at the 281-acre site in Ashburn that will include the company's U.S. headquarters. Announced last October, the $40 million dollar facility will house more than 400 employees and students, growing to 1,000 employees, as necessary to meet the demands of the expanding ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and other business application software markets.

$10 million facility to employ up to 400

Chesapeake - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies officially opened their new $10 million Claim Service Center in Chesapeake. The facility will employ more than 250 people by year end 1999 and as many as 400 in the future. Virginia successfully competed with New Jersey and Orlando, Florida, for the investment in April 1997.

Value City Furniture to invest $18.5 million for regional distribution center

Caroline County - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by Value City Furniture to locate an $18.5 million distribution center in Caroline County. Virginia successfully competed with locations in Maryland for the investment.

First Data Resources to locate new facility in Virginia

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that First Data Resources, Inc., a leading global provider of transaction processing services, will locate a $15 million credit card personalization and distribution center in the City of Chesapeake. The company will initially hire 120 workers and anticipates adding up to a total of 500 new jobs.

Governor Gilmore announces 196 new jobs; $30.5 million investment

Hampton - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by Howmet Corporation, a manufacturer of turbine engine components, to expand its Hampton facility by adding 196 new employees over the next three years. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal joined Howmet executives in Hampton today to make the announcement public. The company will invest $30.5 million in the project.
