Swedish-owned Svedala to move facility from West Virginia to Saltville

Smyth County - Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by Svedala Industri AB to relocate a manufacturing facility from Nitro, West Virginia, to the Town of Saltville. The Swedish company will invest $350,000 in the facility and create at least 45 new jobs for Southwest Virginians over the next year.

Richmond - Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by Star Tobacco & Pharmaceuticals to locate a manufacturing facility in the Town of Chase City. The company is a tobacco manufacturer and the exclusive licensee to a technology to eliminate nitrosamines. Star Tobacco & Pharmaceuticals will hire 65 employees with a capital investment of $3 million.

Attends grand opening festivities for $150 million facility in Lynchburg

Lynchburg - Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today attended a grand opening ceremony for Frito-Lay's new manufacturing and distribution facility in Lynchburg. The plant is expected to create 800 new jobs for Virginians as a result of a $150 million investment. Frito-Lay originally announced plans to build the plant in Virginia in May 1996 and predicts it will contribute nearly $2.5 billion to the Commonwealth's economy over the next 10 years.
